A one-minute speaking rep for iPhone

Second Take: Say it once. See where you padded it. Say it again in half the words.

Answer one prompt a day, out loud, in about a minute. Second Take marks every filler, every hedge and your longest pause. On iPhones with Apple Intelligence, it then hands your answer back at about half the length, in your own words. Then you say it again.

How it works

One prompt. Two takes. About a minute each.

  1. 1

    The prompt

Get today's prompt from one of five packs: Everyday, Interview, Founder, Toasts and Explain it simply. 120 prompts in all.

  2. 2

    Take one

Talk for up to 60 or 90 seconds and watch a live transcript appear, written on your iPhone. Then see your Sharpness score, fillers, hedges and longest pause.

  3. 3

    Tighten

Apple Intelligence rewrites your answer at about half the length, using your own words, and names the one point you were making.

  4. 4

    Take two

Say it again, your way. Both takes sit side by side: words, fillers, time and Sharpness. Share the card if you like.

  • Prep mode: rehearse the real question you're facing
  • History with a chart and a streak
  • Daily reminder, if you want one
  • Your own crutch words, counted every time

What you see

Every padded word, marked.

Your transcript comes back with fillers and hedges highlighted. Underneath, Tighten shows the same answer with the padding gone.

Take one

50 words, 7 fillers, 4 hedges

So, um, I basically design packaging for food brands. So it's kind of the box, like, the thing you pick up in the shop before you've actually read anything on it. And, um, I just try to make that, you know, do the selling, I think. If that makes sense.

I design packaging for food brands. It's the box you pick up before you've read a word on it. My job is to make that box do the selling.

The one point you were making

Packaging is a salesperson that never speaks.

FAQ

Questions, answered.

Does it work without Apple Intelligence?

Yes. Recording, the live transcript, the Sharpness score and the marked-up results don't need Apple Intelligence. Tighten needs an iPhone that supports Apple Intelligence, with it turned on. Without it you get Clean Cut: your transcript with fillers and hedges removed and your longest sentence flagged.

Is my audio saved?

No. The microphone is used only while you record. Apple's speech framework turns your speech into text on your iPhone, and the audio is never saved or uploaded. Transcripts and scores are stored only on your iPhone. Our privacy policy has the details.

What counts as a filler?

Sounds like um and uh, and phrases like "you know" or "I mean" when they're filling space. Words like like, basically and so count when they're used as fillers, for example at the start of a sentence or set off by commas, but not when they're doing a job in the sentence. You can add your own crutch words in Settings, and they count every time.

And a hedge?

Words that soften what you're saying: just, kind of, sort of, I think, I guess, maybe, probably, sorry and similar. They're marked in amber so you can decide which ones you meant.

How is Sharpness scored?

Each take starts at 100 and loses points for fillers and hedges (counted per 100 words, so a long answer isn't punished for being long), for a pace outside about 130 to 170 words per minute, for pauses longer than two seconds, and for running well past the length the prompt aims for. It's a guide for comparing your own takes, not a grade.

How do I cancel Second Take Pro?

Subscriptions are handled by Apple. Open your Apple Account subscriptions, or on your iPhone open Settings, tap your name, then Subscriptions. Cancel at least 24 hours before the end of the current period to avoid the next charge. You keep Pro until the period ends.

Which languages does it support?

English only for now.

What do I need?

An iPhone running iOS 26 or later. Tighten also needs an iPhone that supports Apple Intelligence, with it turned on.

Say it again.

One prompt a day. About a minute. Your audio never leaves your iPhone.
